Chamber Choir will be performing at the Durant Post 430 Legion Memorial Day Ceremony at 9:30am on Monday, May 31st. This will effectively wrap up our 2021 school year.
In other news, it is with a heavy heart that I need to announce that it is time for me to leave Durant Community Schools. I will miss my students terribly, but I am so incredibly proud of what they've accomplished in the last few years. Thank you for all of your love and support.

Just a reminder that our 7-12 May Showcase for Choir and Drama opens tonight at 7pm in the Durant HS Auditorium. Masks and distancing between other guests of different households is required for all audience members.
These are our only live performances for this challenging year, and the students are excited to show you just what they've been doing! Please join us tonight or tomorrow night if you are able. Hello Choir & Drama Families,
I am excited to announce that our May showcase which is performed over two nights: Tuesday, May 11th & Wednesday, May 12th will be held @ 6:30 in the auditorium in person! Audience requirements will be similar to the band concerts, meaning masks and distancing. In order to make this event successful, we need to have a full dress/tech rehearsal which is scheduled for the preceding Saturday, May 8th at 1pm. The goal of this rehearsal is to give tech crew and acts a chance to practice the actual transitions (lights, sound, changing time, curtain open/close, etc.). We will not be fully performing each act, just starting and finishing. This rehearsal is mandatory and a co-curricular event that affects your grade (just like the actual performances do). Please contact Ms. Kleeman regarding what constitutes an excused absence that can be made up. I am letting you know now to make plans to commit to those dates and times above. If any student does not have transportation to any of these required dates, please let me know asap so that we can make a plan for you to be there. Call times for the performances and other details are TBD. Thank you for your support in making this event a success! This year, our students are performing in State Solo/Small Ensemble Contest virtually. This means that they are prerecording their pieces during class time and we upload it along with their scores to be judged. Considering nearly all of these students are also taking Iowa Assessments this week, please wish them luck and let them know how proud of them you are!!!

It has come to our attention that Google Drive may not be cooperating and is preventing some of you from enjoying our show. Please use the link below to view it if you are experiencing this issue. We will be keeping the play up an additional few days to compensate for those who were unable to view over the weekend. https://youtu.be/FVtZf0v1RKw Thank you for your patience and support! The Durant Drama Department We are slated to go online for 3 nights: the 19th-21st. Stay tuned for information about where and how to find this piece of art!
While performing in person is not safely possible right now, Durant Choirs is still focusing on program growth.
With the help of donations from the Ron Alpen family, we have upgraded some sound equipment to keep up in modern world. We have:
This equipment combines with some new floor cradle mic stands to be used by show choirs and... WE HAVE NEW COSTUMES!!!!! Thanks to the Fine Arts Boosters for donating enough to help purchase 32 gently used dresses and 14 shirts that can be used to make a show choir program viable. I am so excited to see where we can go! Image below. Hello Durant Families,
The Choir Department is so proud to finally share with you our first quarter Fall performance. We collaborated with Wilton choirs for this piece, and you will see photos from our greater community with our song, "Closer to the Flame". Especially now, it is so important for us to work together and our students went above and beyond to make this for you. Here in Durant, we are currently working on a few short classic winter songs and carols for each choir and we aim to have a similar performance product available for you in late December. Here is the link to view our Fall Performance. It is a .mov file. If this format does not play for you (it works on most android and apple devices on VLC media player, Quicktime, and Windows Media Player) please contact me and I'll do my best to see what I can do for you to enjoy it in another way. Just as we request no photos or audio recordings during concerts, please show your respect by refraining from attempting to download or make any permanent copy of this performance. This file will be up from 11/13/2020 - 11/21/2020 (now until next Saturday) for you and your families to enjoy at your convenience. Thank you for your support of our program, and please let our singers know when you see them how proud you are of them!
